At the moment, EcoQuest Travel does not have a trip to Ethiopia scheduled, but it is a destination we will offer in the future. If you are interested in Ethiopia as a destination please contact us by email at: info@ecoquesttravel.net.
Holding Africa’s largest mountain ranges, Ethiopia has been called the roof-top of Africa. It is a vast country of varied landscapes from harsh deserts to soaring peaks; dry scrublands to moist montane forests; and huge grasslands to shimmering Rift Valley lakes. Within this diversity of habitats is a rich array of wildlife -many endemic to Ethiopia. Among the mammals seen nowhere else, are huge troops of Gelada Baboons which feed in the montane grasslands and sleep on the cliff-faces; Simien Wolves hunting Giant Molerats and Mountain Nyala in the Bale Mountains; Soemmering’s Gazelle and Hamadryas Baboons in Awash National Park and Walia Ibex in the Simien Mountains. The birdlife is extraordinary with nearly 850 species making it one of the top countries in Africa for diversity, but beyond that Ethiopia holds the second most endemics on the continent. With such mouthwatering species as: Wattled Ibis, Blue-winged Goose, Lammergeier, Black Crowned and Wattled Cranes, Rouget’s Rail, Arabian Bustard, Spot-breasted Lapwing, White-cheeked and Prince Ruspoli’s Turacos, Banded Barbet and Stresemann’s Bush-Crow; Ethiopia should be a must visit for any birding and wildlife enthusiast. Despite this, Ethiopia is a relatively unknown destination and little visited by ecotourists. In addition to the spectacular wildlife, Ethiopia is rich in history, contains remarkable archeological ruins, and is home to a wide variety of unique cultures.
